About me

This blog is mostly about a 30 something year old girl, living in Amsterdam trying to do it all, be it all and look great all at the same time.

Living in the city of sex, drugs and rock & roll sounds more exciting than it is. I am currently a student and The Netherlands is one of the best places anyone can study. The education isn't too expensive, there are student jobs available and depending on where you choose to live there is also student accommodation (Amsterdam has a waiting list that's at least 1 or 2 years long along with all the other big cities in the Netherlands so apply on time).

I have lived here for more than 10 years and I call myself an 'African dutch ' meaning that I am an African holding the Dutch nationality and in spirit I am both. Many people feel that I have to choose one nationality and leave the other behind but the great thing about being a human being is the ability to contain more than one loyalty at any given time.

I am not the most patriotic or religious person because I believe that no race, ethnicity or religion is better than the other. I believe that at the end of the day, it's not up to me to call unto others to follow my faith. I wasn't there in the beginning and I had no hand in creation and so I will not impose my beliefs on others.

From time to time I will sound like I am a fan of a certain group, religion or idea, but that is my opinion at that time and if you don't agree with it that's fine. My opinions will change as I myself change and continue to learn more. I am not perfect and I will make mistakes as I grow and learn. If you do not like what I blog about, please stop visiting my blog. I do not want to be the voice of anyone or promote any agenda. I will simply share with you my thoughts on various topics that grab my attention from time to time.

Please bear with me during the first couple of posts as I try to find my style.

Welcome to my world.

  5. I simply want to compliment you on your page - your writing is lovely. Like you I have a Catholic background (ten years of Catholic school!) and a bent toward feminism, in addition to a lifelong fascination with sex work. I'm curious as to which books you've referenced. Your writing gives off such a nice, clear air, as opposed to a site like courtesan.awardspace.com, which gives off an impression rather different from what I expect the author was aiming for. You shine, girl!

    1. I have forgotten many books as I have been researching this topic for many years. The books that I can remeber are: Act like a lady think like a man - The woman men adore and never want to leave - The art of being feminine (or something along those lines). When I pick up the blog in 2016 I will put up a list of the literature that I used to help me become more feminine and graceful without losing my core personality (we are not trying to become Stepford wives).

The scent of a courtesan 2: The mouth

Photo by Adrienne Andersen from Pexels The total package of a well groomed man or woman includes oral hygiene. One needs to ensure that they have a clean mouth with fresh smelling breath, especially if they will be interacting (closely) with other people. Below I will outline the perfect fresh breath routine that can be used morning and night. The tools Alcohol mouthwash Fluoride / task mouthwash Floss / interdental Toothpaste  Toothbrush Teeth Brushing Routine Step 1: Alcohol Mouthwash Surprised? I suspect so. The first step in your oral routine is getting a mouthwash with alcohol or other disinfecting agent in the top 2 ingredients. Gargle and swish the mouthwash in your mouth for the recommended time making sure to gargle at the back of your throat as well as making sure to swish it through your teeth. This will ensure that your mouth is sanitized for the next step. Step 2: Floss Now that you have a sanitized mouth, it’s time to work on the parts of your teeth that are hard to r...

Courtesan appearance lesson: Summer, heat, body odour / scent and the courtesan

Photo by Dylan Sauerwein on Unsplash Summer is finally upon us and I for one am very happy about it. Summer means bright sunshine, warmth and just general joy for me. In addition to this, summer also means that there is an increased likelihood of sweating.  The science of sweat Sweating is a natural bodily function that one shouldn’t be ashamed of, however the offensive body odour that can result from sweating is something that every woman should be wary of. The body has 2 main sweat glands called eccrine glands and apocrine glands. Eccrine glands which cover most of your body and are found in larger numbers on the palms, soles, forehead, and armpits. These glands are responsible for heat or physical activity related sweat. This sweat consists mainly of water, with a small amount of salt and lipids mixed in. The sweat cools your skin and helps bring your temperature down. Apocrine glands are larger and produce the majority of stress-related sweat. They’re found in parts of your bo...

I am sorry

Photo by Matt on Unsplash Dear ladies (and gents) I apologize deeply for my absence as I have been away for a long time as I pursued other goals. I went to evening school to get my degree and was working full time and I found it impossible to combine this with blogging. When I originally started blogging I had a very perfectionist all or nothing approach and in the past few years I have learnt to have a lot of grace with myself and to understand that slight progress is always better than not doing something because it isn’t perfect. Going forward I will blog weekly or every other week and I will also add all the lessons that I have learnt in the going back to school journey and how they have affected me as well as re-write the courtesan training or courtesan lesson series.  I apologize deeply for my absence and hope to make it up in the coming year.  Let’s get started.
